Since its foundation in 1902, the Graduate School of Business Administration has played an important role in both academia and the business world as a higher education institution for management studies in Japan. Building on our university’s many accomplishments throughout its distinguished history, in April 2013, we introduced a new M.A./Ph.D. program called the SESAMI program—the master’s program under it was developed into the Global Master Program (GMAP) in business, economics, and law in April 2015 to broaden the scope of studies and strengthen global leadership education.

The GMAP-SESAMI program aims to develop human resources who can lead in the global community with rigorous academic training in English. Characterized as a distinguished program, it focuses on strategic entrepreneurship, sustainability alliance management, and strategic management.

Since its introduction, we have accepted diverse students from Asia, Africa, Europe, and the Americas, as well as Japan, who have completed the master’s program, with some advancing to the Ph.D. program. The GMAP-SESAMI program also provides opportunities for joint research with invited lecturers and faculty members. In the fall of 2023, the program will be developed into the “Kobe University Interdisciplinary Master’s Program (KIMAP)”—in this, there will be a greater focus on analytical skills, and the aim will be to strengthen the interdisciplinatiry, integrating the disciplines of business, economics, and law based on evidence-based management education.

Our hope is to both produce researchers for the global academic community and provide global leaders for business practices. We expect the program to be of value and contribute to the business world.
